inception providing world-class multidisciplinary education.
The University came into establishment in 2013, vide Uttaranchal University Act, 2012 (Uttarakhand Act. No. 11 of 2013) as a Private University. Uttaranchal University is recognized by the UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956, as well as by various statutory bodies at both the state and national levels. Founded by the Sushila Devi Centre for Professional Studies & Research, a society registered under the Societies Registration Act (1860), the University has achieved significant milestones, including receiving the prestigious "A+ Grade" accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). This accomplishment positions Uttaranchal University among the top 5% of higher education institutions in the country. The University is committed to delivering exceptional experiential learning to its diverse student body- regional, national, and international- through a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning, investment in research and innovation, and a focus on transforming lives by inculcating in them the essence of the Sanskrit shloka given below.

At the core of Uttaranchal University's mission is its commitment to providing exceptional experiential learning for students from diverse backgrounds through conventional and UGC-DEB online programs. With a strong emphasis on research and innovation, the University has established an Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre with support from the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and is associated with ACIC, Uttaranchal University Foundation. These initiatives support industries across Uttarakhand and North India while fostering an entrepreneurial spirit among students.
Uttaranchal University provides a diverse range of multidisciplinary programs across its various academic schools, covering fields such as Law, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Applied and Life Sciences, Liberal Arts and Humanities, Computing Sciences, Hotel and Hospitality Management, Health Sciences, Nursing, and Ayurveda. Each school has a strong reputation for providing courses that meet professional standards and industry needs, in line with NEP 2020. The University's commitment to quality education is reflected in its impressive alumni network, which includes over 73 judges serving at state, national & international levels, showcasing the impact of its programs on career paths and societal contributions.
The institution promotes innovative, multidisciplinary research across diverse thrust areas, including Cyber Physical Systems, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, IoT, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Renewable Energy, Biofuels, and key engineering fields such as Thermal, Production, Material, Design, Structural, Construction, and Environment Engineering. It also supports studies in Environmental and Constitutional Law, Biodiversity, Psychology, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Gender Equality, Indian Literacy, International Finance, International Relations, Strategic and Quality Management, Behavioural Finance, Emotional Intelligence, and Portfolio Management. Through these focus areas, the institution strives to advance knowledge and drive sustainable societal progress.
Uttaranchal University’s national and global achievements reflect its consistent rise in prominence. The University has been featured in the WURI Rankings from 2022 to 2025, followed by its appearance in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2024 and 2025, underscoring its strong contributions to global research and innovative practices. In 2024, it achieved a remarkable position- fifth nationally and twenty-fifth internationally- under UNSDG Goal 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy) in the THE World Impact Rankings. The University further strengthened its global footprint with its inclusion in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2026, QS Sustainability Rankings, and THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings in 2025. On the national front, the School of Pharmacy (Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences) secured the 75th rank in NIRF 2025.
It has also received the Sustainability Award from the International Council of Circular Economy, recognizing its leadership in sustainable practices. Furthermore, its inclusion in the SDSN South Asia Network emphasizes its commitment to advancing sustainability and impactful research in the region.
