International Conference on Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety-RTPD-2022 was organized by Uttaranchal Institute Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun. The event was graced by Dr Montu Kumar Patel, President, Pharmacy Council of India as the Chief Guest, Dr Yashpal Singh Chhonker, Research Scientist, University of Nebraska, USA, Dr S D Sawant, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IIIM, Jammu, Dr Mukesh Nandev, DPSRU, Dr Rishi Kumar, Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission were among the guest speakers. Mr Jitendra Joshi, Chancellor Uttaranchal University was also present at the conference.
The conference received an overwhelming response more than 400 delegates from 50 plus institutes participated in the conference comprising renowned academicians, scientists, invited guests, and research scholars. The conference commenced with felicitation of dignitaries, lamp lighting and the inaugural ceremony followed by Curtain Raising by Honourable Chancellor, Shri Jitendra Joshi. Souvenir of the conference was released by the dignitaries.
The welcome address was delivered by Prof (Dr) Anita Gehlot, Head, Research & Innovation. She told Pharmacovigilance and Drug Safety Conference aims to bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of these subjects. She mentioned that 50 research articles were selected and will be published in Scopus indexed Journal. Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bhauguna appreciated the efforts of Pharmacists in research and development, especially in clinical trials, pharmacovigilance and drug safety. He welcomed all the dignitaries and guest speakers, and participants present at the conference.
Dr Yashpal Singh Chhonker, Research Scientist at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, USA explained the need for pharmacovigilance and highlighted the contributions being made by pharmacists during Thalidomide Tragedy. Dr Montu Kumar Patel, President, Pharmacy Council of India enlightened the participants about the special contribution of pharmacy education in India
In the Scientific session Dr S D Sawant discussed the Drug Discovery methods of random screening, molecular designing, drug metabolism and serendipity, he also discussed the example of drug discovery from traditional knowledge. Dr Mukesh Nandave discussed the new trends in Pharmacovigilance post-COVID 19. Dr Rishi Kumar explained the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India, as well as the need of Pharmacovigilance to protect patients from unnecessary harm and increasing healthcare costs from medicines.
Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor of the University welcomed the President of Pharmacy Council of India Dr Montu Kumar Patel and all the guest speakers and stressed the importance of pharmacovigilance and drug safety in the present scenario. He enlightened the delegates and guests about the vision and mission of the university and how the university is empowering the nation through education. He stressed the research collaboration with international companies in the field of pharmacy. The event was smoothly anchored by Mrs Pallavi Ghildiyal and all technical support was given by Dr Tarun Parashar. The Session ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Dean, UIPS, Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola. The second day of the conference started with the felicitation of the Invited guests, Prof Vikas Anand Saharan, SBS University, Dr Jhuma Samanta, Principal, KIITS, Dr Yogendra Bahuguna, SGRR University, D Kapil Kalra, Principal Alpine Institute of Management and Technology and Mr Amit Kotiyal, DGM Sharon Bio-Medicine Ltd.
Oral and poster presentations were conducted. 50 oral presentations were evaluated by the Guest which were selected for publication in the Scopus index journal- Journal of Medical Pharmaceutical and Allied Sciences (JMPAS). The panel for poster evaluation included Dr Rajesh Singh, Director R&I, Dr Anita Gahelot, Head R&I and Mr Amit Kotiyal. A Total 40 presenters successfully explained their work on different aspects. Ayushi Khali, SGRRU, First, Akash Samanta, UIPS along with Saurav Dhiban, KIPS were in the Second position and Avantika Paswan, Alpine Institute and Gaurav Pundir, UIPS shared the third position among the winner of the oral presentation. All the scientific Sessions were co-ordinated by Mrs Nidhi Gairola, Mrs Kiran Dobhal, Ms Mahamedha Deorari, Mr S P Bhatt, Mrs Alka Singh and Dr Ankit Sharma. The event concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr Amit Semwal.

The International Conference on Intelligent Systems (ICIS-2022) focused on the fields of intelligent systems and how they can play a vital role in the real world. It brings together prominent academic scientists, researchers, and research scholars to discuss their expertise and research findings on all aspects of Intelligent Systems. It also serves as a leading transdisciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners, and educators to present and discuss the most recent breakthroughs, trends, and concerns, as well as practical issues and solutions in the domains of Intelligent Systems. The primary objective of the International Conference on Intelligent Systems (ICIS – 2022) is to bring together professionals in the field of Science and Technology from around the globe with the intention of encouraging and transforming the newest knowledge on intelligent systems and sharing their ideas and experiences in person with their colleagues who are expected to attend from all over the world.
Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi Ji, Uttaranchal University Inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp and, in his address, appreciated the efforts in the field of research. Our Guest of Honor- DGM, Ceylon electricity board, Sri Lanka Dr. Ronald Comester discussed the role of AI & IoT in energy production and maintenance, smart energy meters, and customization & scalability. Our Chief Guest- Chairman, Bavarian Center of Applied Energy Research Munich Germany Dr. Andrews Hauer gave a brief overview of the Modelling, Optimization, and Automated Software. Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddi, Uttaranchal University focused on the importance of intelligent systems in Industry 4.0. Pro-VC Prof (Dr) Bahuguna, Uttaranchal University shared his views on the role of AI and Intelligent systems in law. Director of Research & Innovation, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Singh, Uttaranchal University discussed the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. The vote of thanks was proposed by Conference Convener Dean, Uttaranchal University, Dr. SD Pandey. ICIS received a huge response in terms of good quality papers from six countries including India, the USA, Philippines, Korea, Nigeria, Oman, and Turkey. An acceptance ratio of 36% was maintained for ensuring good quality papers.
The papers will be published by “River Publishers” from Denmark and will be submitted for indexing in Scopus. Other dignitaries present were Dr Amit Srivastava, Dr Anita Gehlot, Dr SK Saha, Dr Shravan Kumar, Dr MP Singh, Dr Kapil Joshi, Mukesh Pandey, Mrs Madhu Kirola, and Organizing Committee Members.

The fourth plant science research meet in the form of a national conference began at Uttaranchal University on 20th November 2021. The conference was jointly organized by PLANTICA, School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, & HNBGU. The conference was jointly inaugurated by the lighting of lamp by Shri Jitender Joshi, Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Dr Abhishek Joshi, Director SA & IT, Dr Anoop Badoni, Convenor, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Co-Convenor & Dean Applied Sciences, Prof D S Chauhan, Dean Agriculture HNB Garhwal University, Prof (Dr) A R Karnataka, Vice Chancellor, SGUUHF, Bharsar, Uttarakhand, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University. The inauguration ceremony was followed by a welcome address by Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh who briefed about the objectives of the conference and also mentioned the significance of organizing such scientific meets. Dr Anoop Badoni in his address extended an official welcome to all dignitaries and extended his best wishes to all participants. Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna in his address emphasized on the importance of conducting outcome based scientific studies for the benefit of society. Prof (Dr) A R Karnataka in his address highlighted the importance of contribution of plant and agricultural science studies in benefit of all stakeholders. Dr R K Arora in his technical session elaborated upon various aspects and potentials of Aeroponics. Dr Pooja Kantura provided valuable insight into the activities of PLANTICA and proposed a vote of thanks. More than 250 participants were present in the conference from various institutes and universities. The event was anchored by Prof (Dr) Bharti Ramola. A souvenir was also released with 174 research papers on this occasion.
On 21st November 2021, the second day of the National Conference of Advanced Plant Science, Prof Dr M P Singh Bisht, Director of USAC, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice Chancellor, Dr G K Dhingra, Dean of Science Faculty, Shri Dev Suman Uttarakhand University, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean of SALS, Dr Anoop Badoni, Director-Plantica Foundation started the program by lighting the lamp. On this occasion Prof (Dr) M P Singh Bisht congratulated Plantica and Uttaranchal University for the successful conference. He highlighted the importance of agricultural science and plant research. Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh and Dr Anoop Badoni expressed their views on Plantica. Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh threw light on the utility of plant science research in today’s time. Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna threw light on the importance of agriculture in human life. In this conference 12 key speakers expressed their views and 161 research scholars presented their papers. About 250 scientists, research scholars and students from Punjab, Maharashtra, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Delhi and other states participated in this seminar.About 50 research scholars participated in the poster competition. Prize distribution ceremony was organized on 21 November 2021, in which research scholar Priyavrat was awarded with the Young Plant Scientist Award. Ambika Gaur and Paras Sajwan were awarded Best Researchers Award in the PG category.

A webinar entitled ‘Commit to Quit’ was organized by the Department of Civil Engineering on 31st May, 2021 from 3 pm to 4 pm to observe “World No Tobacco Day-2021” under the WHO annual campaign, the theme of which was “Commit to Quit”. The webinar aimed at raising awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure, and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form. The webinar was moderated by Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli, HOD-Department of Civil Engineering and was organized by Mr. Gaurav Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering.
The Key Speakers of the webinar were Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Tiwari, Director, Rajkiya Engineering College, Ambedkar Nagar, U.P. and Prof. (Dr.) S.D. Pandey, Dean- UIT, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun. The webinar was attended by all the HODs, Faculty Members and the students from all the branches of B.Tech. and M.Tech.
Mr. Awadhesh Chandramauli, after greeting Hon’ble Chancellor, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and all the dignitaries, introduced the attendees to the objectives of the webinar and threw light on the topic. Prof. (Dr.) Sandeep Tiwari then took the webinar forward and explained in detail the various cons of consuming tobacco and spread awareness about its effects on the people with special emphasis on the students. The session was then handed over to Prof. (Dr.) S.D. Pandey who gave an insight into the history of World No Tobacco Day and spread awareness about the disadvantages of consuming tobacco and of second-hand smoke exposure. Prof. (Dr.) S.D. Pandey tried to make the attendees understand the gravity of the issue and asked them to contribute in making this a world tobacco free.
After the completion of the session, a “Pledge-Taking Ceremony” against tobacco use was conducted. Mr. Gaurav Thakur then concluded the webinar with a Vote of Thanks to the key speakers and the attendees followed by the recital of the National Anthem.

Indigenous Traditional Knowledge
An International Conference on “Indigenous Traditional Knowledge” (ITK– 2019) on the theme ‘Recent Approaches in Pharmaceutical Sciences’ was organized on Sep 24th- 25th 2019 by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Uttaranchal University, Dehradun, in the University Campus. The objective of ITK–2019 was to offer a standard platform for interaction between the Students, Young Researchers and Eminent Personalities from Research Institutes and Pharmaceutical Industries. It aimed to provide a platform for rigorous discussion on the subject and finding ways to utilize the benefits of ITK in a rational and mutually acceptable manner.
The event was graced by the presence of dignitaries from the field of ITK and its application in Pharmacy and allied sectors. Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Tripathi, Director, Uttarakhand Ayurveda University, Haridwar, was present as the Chief Guest, Dr. M Muruganandam, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IICSW, Dehardun and Prof. Kumud Upadhyaya, Kumaun University were the distinguished guests present along with Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi and Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi. Convenor Dr. Anuj Mittal, Director – UIPS, welcomed all the delegates and, in his address, focused on the role of indigenous languages in creating knowledge systems.
The Inauguration Ceremony initiated with the lighting of the lamp and prayer offering to Goddess Saraswati. B. Pharm. students Sweta Negi and Pooja performed a dance on Saraswati Vandana followed by the recital of University Kulgeet.
The function proceeded with the Welcome Speech delivered by Prof. (Dr) N K Joshi, Vice Chancellor Uttaranchal University. He welcomed all the guest and delegates to Uttaranchal University. He highlighted the importance of ITK and the role of medicinal plants used in treatments. Convenor of the Conference Prof. (Dr.) Anuj Mittal focused on the objective of the conference stating that traditional knowledge is deep rooted in every community across the globe. The traditional knowledge of Indian products are more valuable than products in several other countries as India is the place where lots and lots of valuable resources are available and most of the products are an outcome of a historic traditional knowledge.
Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Tripathi, Director, Uttarakhand Ayurveda University, Haridwar, Chief Guest of the event briefed about Traditional Knowledge System and established that it is vital for well being and sustainable development. He explained that the traditional knowledge system has been developed by the communities to conserve and utilize the biological diversity of their surroundings. He focused on the Ayurveda and metals used in the treatment of different diseases in Pharmacy.
The Keynote Speaker Dr. M Muruganandam, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IICSW, Dehardun, in his speech, highlighted the role of ITK and also focused on the protection of our indigenous traditional knowledge from bio-piracy and showed his keen interest in the framing of rigid legislative agenda in this regard. Prof. Kumud Upadhyaya, Kumaun University, focused on the problem of successful documentation of a traditional knowledge under Indian Patent Act.
As a token of regards the guest were presented with saplings and momentoes.
The day was also very special as the Journal of UIPS, “Uttaranchal University Journal of Research”, was released by the dignitaries and guests present in the conference followed by the release of the Souvenir (the Abstract Book of the Conference).
The event witnessed presence of more than 600 participants including students, invited guests, resource persons, faculty & staff of UIPS and different colleges of Dehradun.
In the Technical Session, the Keynote Speakers Dr. M Muruganandam, Principal Scientist, ICAR-IICSW, Dehardun and Prof. Kumud Upadhyaya, Kumaun University, along with Dr. Rashmi Chamoli, Dolphin Institute, Dr. Jyoti Saxena, Shobhit University, Dr. Manoj Kumar Sagar, NKBR College of Pharmacy, Meerut, presented their talks on ITK, featured with interactive sessions and plenary sessions. Students of different colleges gave oral and poster presentations to acknowledge the value of ITK and brought forth the challenges to ITK. The development of new technology and the new use of traditional knowledge based products today is the major threat to the survival of many of these communities due to the commercial exploitation of traditional knowledge based products by their manufacturing without the permission and profit sharing with the communities. The Speakers emphasized that there is immense potential to harness the benefits of traditional knowledge to bring out new products or to find out new use of existing products and utilizing it.
Hon’ble Chancellor, Shri. Jitender Joshi, congratulated the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences for organizing the event and assured that Uttaranchal University will continue to provide support and motivation for such Conferences in the future.
Organizing Secretary Dr. Amit Semwal delivered the Vote of Thanks and said that the conference aimed to connect policy and science with traditional knowledge by highlighting the possibilities of synergies and exchanges between scientific and traditional knowledge, through medicinal, sociological, agricultural and forestry-oriented approaches. He emphasized the important role of traditional knowledge in sustainable development and the management of ITK in Pharmaceutical Sector. Mr. Tarun Parashar, Mrs. Kiran Dobhal, Mrs. Soniya, Mrs. Jyotsana, Mrs. Pallavi, Ms. Nidhi, Mr. Prashant, Ms. Neelima and other faculty members were present in the event.
The Second Day of the Conference (25th Sep, 2019) was graced by the presence of Dr. S Farooq, President, Himalaya Drug Company as the Guest of Honour, along with Chief Guest, Shri. Jitender Joshi, Chancellor – Uttaranchal University and Prof. (Dr.) N K Joshi, Vice Chancellor – Uttaranchal University. Convenor Dr. Anuj Mittal, Director – UIPS, welcomed all the guest and delegates for the second day of the conference. The Inauguration Ceremony initiated with the lighting of lamp and recital of Saraswati Vandana followed by the University Kulgeet.
The event started with the Welcome Speech delivered by Prof. (Dr.) N. K. Joshi, Vice Chancellor – Uttaranchal University. He welcomed Dr. S Farooq and briefed all regarding the first day’s proceedings. In his address he focused on Artificial Technology and the role of medicinal plants in Drug Discovery. In his speech Dr. S Farooq said that traditional knowledge is generally the result of a collective, intergenerational effort in the sense that it evolves in a social context. He elaborated upon the curative and prophylactic uses of medicinal herbs.
Medicinal plants were planted by the guests and the students in the Herbal Medicinal Garden of UIPS. A Media Interaction Session was conducted to publicise the aim and outcome of the Conference.
Poster and Oral Presentation by the delegates was also conducted. 40 posters were judged by Dr. Mohd. Asif, Director, Himalayan Institute of Pharmacy, Education and Research, Dr. Kikku Yadav, Head, Community Health, Swami Rama Himalayan Institute, Dr. Manoj Sagar, Director, NKBR, Meerut and Prof. (Dr.) N K Joshi, Vice Chancellor, Uttaranchal University . Mr. Amit Singh Chauhan received the Best Oral Presentation and Mr. Debraj Makopadhyaya received the Best Poster Presentation Award.
Dr. Anuj Mittal, Convenor, delivered the Vote of Thanks and said that the conference intended to rejuvenate and reinvigorate aspects so that it could be harnessed to stimulate integral development in healthcare system. The conference also aimed to catalyse integral development of Indigenous Traditional Knowledge related to recent advancement in our healthcare systems. He expressed his gratitude towards all the delegates, researchers academicians and other participants. Dr. Anuj Mittal thanked all the faculty members of Department of Pharmacy for their contribution. Uttaranchal Institute of Management, a faculty of Uttaranchal University, is organizing an International Conference on the topic, ‘Information Technology and Management for the Sustainable Development’ (ICITMSD) (August 9-10, 2019).
The Conference initiated with the Felicitation Ceremony, wherein Shri Jitender Joshi, Hon’ble Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, felicitated the Chief Guest, Dr. Narendra S. Chaudhari (Vice-Chancellor, Uttarakhand Technical University). Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi felicitated Shri Jitender Joshi. Dr. Pradeep Suri, Director – UIM, felicitated Prof.(Dr.) N.K. Joshi, followed by the felicitation of other dignitaries. The Guests of Honour, Dr. Rakesh Sharma (Scientist, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology), Dr. S. Qamar (King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia) were felicitated by the faculty members.
The Keynote Speakers included eminent personalities from academia and industry, namely, Prof.(Dr.) Subhash C. Sharma, (IIT-Roorkee), Dr. Sandeep Rakshit (American University of Nigeria), Ms. Anita Koli (NIIT Technologies) and Dr. Alok Kumar, JKLU.
The ‘ Welcome Address’ was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Pradeep Suri, wherein he introduced all the dignitaries and said that the Conference was being organized with the objective of bringing together eminent researchers, scholars, academicians and industry stalwarts to promote high-end research in varied areas of technology and management.
Prof. (Dr.) N.K. Joshi emphasized on latest trends in technology and management, namely, Big Data and Machine Learning. He further added that ‘Data is the strongest currency in today’s world’.
Dr. Narendra Chaudhari motivated the students for inclusion of technological interventions for the growth of the country. Dr. Rakesh Sharma encouraged the participants to consider various perspectives of technology for advancement at global level. Dr. S. Qamar spoke on mobile technologies and shared his research experiences.
Thereafter, Conference Proceedings were released. The Chief Guest and Guests of Honour were presented with mementoes as a token of gratitude.
The Keynote Speakers Prof.(Dr.) Subhash C. Sharma from IIT-Roorkee and Ms. Anita Koli from NIIT Technologies delivered Keynote Address in Track 1 and Track 2 respectively. Other Keynote Speakers included Dr. Sandeep Rakshit and Dr. Alok Kumar.
A large number of participants from across the globe presented their papers on the main and allied themes. There was a huge participation by the research scholars and post-graduate students of UIM.
