A seminar on Innovations in microbial technology for sustainable development was organized by the Department of Biotechnology, School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS) on 16 September 2022. The seminar began with the lighting of the auspicious lamp followed by the address of Dr Nishesh Sharma, Organizing Secretary whom he briefed about the objective of organizing the seminar. Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean SALS, Uttaranchal University in his keynote talk emphasised the significance of innovative approaches in scientific studies to address the problems of health, society and the environment. He also mentioned the sound role of young researchers to step ahead and conduct meaningful research in the field of microbiology for better therapeutic applications. Dr Pankaj Kumar, Department of Microbiology, Avdesh Medical College, Ambala in his technical session highlighted the prospects of molecular diagnostics and their application in the field of medicine. Dr Monika Singh in her technical session discussed applications of microbes and microbial technology in the enhancement of agricultural productivity. A total of 150 students participated in the seminar. Participants through poster presentations and PowerPoint presentations exhibited recent trends and development in the field of microbiology. In the category of e-poster presentation, Hemashree and Shallu were awarded the prize for best e-poster presentation and Bobby Prasad won the prize for best oral presentation. A vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Indra Rautela. The event was coordinated by Tanisha and Swati. Dr Sudhanshu Mishra, Dr Ashish Tiwari, Dr Monika Singh, Dr Minakshi Rajput, Dr Mohd. Yasir Khan, Dr Farha Maarfi, Dr Sandhya, Dr Himani Badoni were also present on the occasion.

A Seminar on “Industrial Innovation with Human Values and Professional Ethics” was organised by the School of Applied & Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University on 6 September 2022. The seminar was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest Dr S Farooq, President, Himalaya Wellness Company, Shri Jitender Joshi Ji, Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Prof (Dr) S S Sehgal, Vice President, Uttaranchal University, Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi, Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Uttaranchal University, Prof (Dr) Abhishek Joshi, Director-SA & IT Services, and Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, Dean, School of Applied & Life Sciences & Science & Research. This Seminar was organised as a part of the orientation program for I year students of various science disciplines. The seminar was started with a warm welcome by Shri Jitender Joshi, Chancellor, Uttaranchal University followed by a concept note of the conference by Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh.
Prof (Dr) Dharam Buddhi addressed the need for innovation as per industrial applications. He motivated the participants to do research through dissertations & projects. Dr S Farooq delivered his talk on human values and ethics in professional life. He quoted many practical examples of human values which play a very important role in society as well as in professional life. He stressed on doing research with implications in life. Dr Sehgal and Dr Bahuguna expressed their views. Dr Bharati Ramola, Cultural Head proposed the vote of thanks. Seminar more than 750 students & 50 students participated in the Seminar. The seminar was co-ordinated by Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh. The conference was compered by Mr Ankit Joshi & Ms Agrima Pandey.

Skills and Innovation in Research Writing
The one-day online Webinar on “Skills and Innovation in Research Writing” was organised by Uttaranchal Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences on 27 August 2022 to enhance the opportunities endowed to the young scholars that would improve their abilities to write research articles. Dr Rajeev K Singla, Researcher, Frontiers Science Centre for Disease-Related Molecular Network, Institutes for Systems Genetics, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu China was the resource person. The webinar was attended by more than 100 attendees including students, scholars, and faculty members of different Institutes. The Webinar was started with a welcome note by Prof (Dr) Vikash Jakhmola, Dean UIPS.
Dr Singla explained how to inculcate the habit of Research in academics and process-related publication in open-access research journals like SCI and ESCI. He also emphasised being honest while conducting any research and various methods of performing the research in a triplicate manner to avoid the error. He encouraged students to make a proper laboratory notebook for writing up the observations and the key findings while performing their work. He pointed out the key mistakes done by the writers that leads to the rejection of the paper like not reading the manuscript properly, the cover letter of their work not being presentable, Title remaining over expressive, submission of research work in multiple journals at a time, putting the designation on the paper where it is not required, forgetting to mention the corresponding authors’ information properly, missing to mention the country where the research is done. He also emphasised writing keywords, abstracts, material and method, conclusion, and references in a proper manner. Dr Singla further explained the open access journals and demonstrated how to check the authenticity of the journal, as well as to choose the journal wisely. The webinar ended with a Q&A session. The interactive session was coordinated by Dr Tarun Parashar, Associate Professor and Ms Shivani, Assistant Professor UIPS. The session ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Tarun Parashar.

A Seminar on International Day of Immunology, 29th April 2022 was organized by Biogenerika-Student club, School of applied and life sciences (SALS), Uttaranchal University Dehradun. The seminar was organized on the theme of Natural immunity boosters and Diagnostics. The event was inaugurated by lamp lighting by dignitaries followed by the address of Prof Ajay Singh, Dean SALS Uttaranchal university in which he emphasized on the importance of building immunity through natural immunity boosters and a healthy lifestyle in the present era. In different technical sessions, Dr Indra Rautela elaborated on the impact of environmental hazards on immunity. Dr Himani Badoni and Dr Minakshi Rajput conducted an interactive session with participants to address their queries regarding immunity and health. Dr. Monika Singh in her technical session discussed different diagnostic techniques with an emphasis on viral pathogens. Each technical session was followed by an interactive session in which participants raised their queries which were addressed by the speakers. In a scientific presentation competition, a total of fifty presentations were made by the students in which Apoorva, B Sc (H) Biotechnology, Nandani, B Sc (H) Chemistry, Ishika, B Sc (H) Food Technology were awarded first, second and third prize respectively. Dr Nishesh Sharma, HoD, Biotechnology proposed a vote of thanks on the occasion extending gratitude to University Dignitaries for providing support for organizing the event. The event was co-ordinated by Mr Priyvart and Mr Akshat Srivastava.

NSS Foundation Day was celebrated on 24-09-2021 in Uttaranchal University. A grand seminar and awareness program was organized by the NSS unit of Uttaranchal University on the occasion of NSS Foundation Day. This program was celebrated with great solemnity, on this occasion the Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Shri Jitendra Joshi Ji, Officiating Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Rajesh Bahuguna Ji , State NSS Program Officer, Shri Ajay Agarwal Ji, Dr Vinay Kumar Sethi Ji, Students and IT Affairs Director, Prof (Dr) Abhishek Joshi, Student Welfare Dean and Faculty President, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh, NSS Program Officer, Dr. V K Srivastava started the program by lighting the lamp. Dean Student Welfare, Prof (Dr) Ajay Singh highlighted the purpose of NSS and encouraged the students for social service.
The Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Shri Jitendra Joshi said that such programs should be organized from time to time to increase awareness among the masses.
NSS Program Officers of the State, Shri Ajay Agarwal Ji appreciated the efforts of Uttaranchal University and assured to provide all possible supports to the NSS wing of the Uttaranchal University. During the key note speech, Dr Sethi delivered the wonderful motivational lecture on human values. An Approach towards Women Empowerment

“Women Entrepreneur” is the term attributed to that section of the female population which ventures out into industrial and the economic activities. Women entrepreneurs may be defined as the women who initiate, organize and operate a business enterprise.
In order to celebrate Women’s Empowerment, Women Cell of School of Liberal Arts, Uttaranchal University organized a Student’s e-Seminar, entitled “Women Entrepreneurship: An Approach towards Women Empowerment” on 25th May, 2021. The event was conceptualized by Prof. (Dr.) Shriya Goyal and was coordinated by Dr. Reeta Rautela along with student coordinators.
The event was hosted by Sayantani Majumdar [B.A. (Hons.) English]. The students from the Second Year participated in the event. The informative Power Point Presentations were enriched with the descriptive elaboration of the topic. The participants ensured that the title was justified and incorporated informative elements on all the aspects.
Ayesha Thapa [B.A. (Hons.) Psychology] delivered the “Introductory Note” which explained the topic and elaborated upon the essence of Women Entrepreneurship. This was followed by “The Challenges faced by Women Entrepreneurs” discussed upon by Surabhi Gaur [B.A. (Hons.) Psychology]. “Women Entrepreneurs of Uttarakhand and Kerala” was elaborated upon by Samridhdi Kandpal [B.A. (Hons.) English]. The final presentation was put forth by Neha Jaiswal [B.A. (Hons.) English] on “India’s Most Successful Women Entrepreneurs”.
Everyone perceived various facts of women who took initiative in promoting and running an enterprise of their interest. Despite the problems faced at economic and social level, constant friction against religious, cultural & psychological factors and atrocities prevailing in the society, the women entrepreneurs in India have marked their position and have elevated it to a higher pedestal in the recent years.
The enriching event was brought to a graceful conclusion with a Vote of Thanks and a Note of Appreciation delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Shriya Goyal, Dean – SLA. The deserving people, including the Faculty Coordinator Dr. Reeta Rautela, the Student Coordinators, the participants and the virtual audience were duly acknowledged. This event brought information, joy and a sense of unity among all amidst the global pandemic.

A one-day seminar on the topic “Quantum Dots and its Applications” was organized by Department of Physics, School of Applied and Life Sciences (SALS) on 24 February 2020. The seminar started with the Welcome Note delivered by Dr. B.S Rawat, Head – Department of Physics, SALS. Dr. Bhagwati Prasad (Assistant Professor Department of Physics, D.D. College Grahi Cantt, Dehradun), Mr. Ajaib Singh, (Discipline of Metallurgy Engineering and Materials Science, IIT Indore) and Dr. Naveen Chandra Joshi (Assistant Professor Department of Chemistry, SALS, Uttaranchal University) were the Resource Person. Dr. Bhagwati Prasad briefed about the fundamentals of Quantum dots and further elaborated various applications of Quantum dots. The seminar was then continued by Dr. Naveen Chandra Joshi, and Mr. Ajaib Singh. The seminar was attended by sixty participants. Later on a 30 minute of discussion session was organized by the students.
The event owed special acknowledgement to the students of Physics Department who actively participated and managed the event. Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr. B.S Rawat (Head – Department of Physics, SALS) in which sincere gratitude was expressed towards Hon’ble Chancellor Shri Jitender Joshi for extending his kind support and encouragement for organizing the webinar. National Youth Day, the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, was celebrated by Department of Food Technology and Department of Mathematics, School of Applied and Life Sciences, Uttaranchal University. A Seminar was organized in association with National AIDS Control Organization (NACO), Red Ribbon Club and National Service Scheme (NSS) on 21st January, 2020. The theme of the Seminar was ‘Youth Health, Hygiene and Stress Management’. The event was conceptualized by Dr. V.K. Srivastava (Head – Department of Mathamatics) and Dr. Shilpa Sharma (Coordinator of Department of Food Technology) under the guidance of Dr. Ajay Singh (Principal – SALS).
Dr. Yasha Sirohi (M.B.B.S., Counselor and Psychotherapist), Dr. Nutan Mishra (Technical Expert, NACO) and Mr. Gagan Luthra (Technical Expert, NACO) were the experts for the Seminar.
The program started with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by all the experts, Dr. Shilpa Sharma, Convenor of the event, Dr. V. K Shrivastava (Head – Department of Mathematics), Dr. Nishesh Sharma (Head – Department of Biotechnology) and Dr. Bharti Ramola (Head- Cultural & Events, Uttaranchal University). Faculty Members of Department of Food Technology and Department of Mathematics, namely, Dr. Bindu Naik, Dr. Shweta Singh, Dr. Shilpa Sharma, Mr. Rajeev Kumar, Mr. Prattek Gururani, Ms. Nitika Rathi, Mr. Manoj, Mr. Atmanand, Dr. Shalu Choudhary and Dr. Mohit were present on the occasion. More than 70 Post Graduate and Under Graduate students from different branches actively participated in the seminar.
Dr. Yasha Sirohi (Psychotherapist/ Counsselor) delivered her influential interactive lecture on ‘Mind and Spiritual Sciences’ using motivational examples. She tried to remove student stress practically and asked them to express their gratitude towards their parents. She also conducted a small Meditation Session for all the students.
Dr. Nutan Mishra along with Mr. Gagan Luthra enlightened the students on the myth and etiology of AIDS and enlisted its preventive measures & precautions. They created awareness regarding the allied aspects including the importance of sex education, blood donation and the like.
The seminar concluded with distribution of gifts of appreciation to the students who were active blood donors. Post Graduate students Ms. Medha, Ms. Niharika Dimiri and Under Graduate student Mr. Mansoor Ali Akone of the Department of Food Technology were amongst the recipients of gift of appreciation.
The program ended with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Shilpa Sharma. She expressed her sincere thanks to the invited guests, organizers, faculty members and the students. She expressed her special thanks to the Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor of Uttaranchal University, Mr. Jitender Joshi and Prof. (Dr.) N. K.
